A bunch of Cherrries recently attended Glug’s most recent Birmingham event at Spotlight in Digbeth. Glug host events nationally and internationally for the design and creative community, with this event being part 1 of a 2 part series entitled 'Craft & Graft’, hosted by Inkygoodness and WE ARE GOODNESS, a newly formed illustration agency in Birmingham.

Adam B, Adam G, Katie, Matt, Gavin & Radu enjoyed talks from a variety of contributors to the creative community. First up was Birmingham-based digital studio, adaptable, informing us of the conception of their company and how they built it up from an idea post-uni, along with giving an insight into their values, goals and achievements.

French Illustrator Marylou Faure then talked us through her weird and wonderful collection of characters, the projects she has been involved in, how to handle clients together with creative differences and her approach to surviving as a creative freelancer whilst keeping her creative integrity.

Alec Dudson followed with his interesting talk about the project Intern Magazine, which he founded after his own experience as an intern. He founded the magazine to exhibit the work of interns as well as providing information from and to interns, all spawned from a small idea funded by crowdfunding and now standing as a sustainable and reputable business.

Last up was a thoroughly engaging, entertaining and rather surprising talk from Mr Bingo, covering a brief insight into his early career, followed by the success of his Hate Mail project and then into an extensive insight into his elaborate crowdfunding video where he wrote, recorded and made a video for a rap song to promote his latest project, which kept the audience chuckling throughout!

As an evening it was very enjoyable and as a series of presentations it was varied and interesting, topped off with some great food from Birmingham's own Digbeth Dining Club and some complimentary Sailor Jerry's from the bar, top work Glug! Here’s to the next one, which will be Glug Birmingham #5 ‘Craft & Graft’ pt.2 at Spotlight on Thursday 30th June 2016.
