Desert Island Discs #5

Welcome back kids, it's that time again, plug yer headphones in and listen to the latest installment of the series that literally nobody is talking about.

Nirvana - Where did you sleep last night

So this is a well old song, in fact is it quoted as being written in 1870, but essentially was made famous by Leadbelly. To be honest it's not the sort of song that is gonna make you smile, which the majority of my choices are, but it is great and hence worthy of inclusion.

I'm not really a Nirvana fan (thought Bleach and Nevermind were good but after that, they sort of drifted off for me), however this cover version is unbeliveble. There is a version by Mark Lanagen which is incredible, which both Kurt Cobain and Chris Novoselic play on. But this version, being the unplugged one is really haunting and dark.

I mean I know that Cobain looks like some gyppo who'd tap you up for 50p for a cup of tea and then stab you in the eye with a rusty syringe, but christ the bloke can sing.

Anyway, give it a spin, although to be honest I dunno when I would play it on my desert island, maybe when I've just eaten some suspect looking berries then I start spinning out, everything starts melting in front of my face and my feet morph into 2 large salmon with bowler hats on.
