Katie takes on the Winter Wolf Run!

So about a month ago I signed myself up to the Winter Wolf run at Stanford Hall in Lutterworth.

It was one of those drunken suggestions that sounded like a great idea at the time. Hmmmm?

£65 paid to endure a 10k run/swim in the woods, over obstacles, through lakes and fields, not to mention the mud! I was also a little bit apprehensive on the 10k situation, as the most I’ve ever run is around 6k.

Anyway, there was no time for backing out, as all was already booked and paid for. I tried to fit as much training in as I could in the few weeks leading up to it. Training consisted of a few spin classes and a few 5k runs…. A far cry from the 10 week training programme they recommend… whoopsie!

I have to say it was the most exhilarating experience I’ve had. Very hard, but so much fun! We waded through the chest height mud sucker like ants in honey, then onto the water slide. Gliding down the 100 metres of fast flowing water was the perfect opportunity to get rid of some of the mud, and a bit of respite from the more challenging obstacles we faced. The adrenaline and team support from everyone taking part, helping each other out of the mud and over difficult wall climbs, was immense.

I’d thoroughly recommend it and will definitely be taking part in the next one…
